44-Hour Legal Interpreting Program
This course provides students with a comprehensive overview of pre-trial and court procedures, the strict professional and ethical standards and responsibilities required of interpreters, and legal terminology.
Our professional development course is intended for bilingual individuals in all languages who seek to develop their interpretation skills in order to become a court interpreter. By focusing on the skills and knowledge essential for legal interpreters as well as the complexities and nuances of the court system, this program also helps you prepare interpreters to pass the court interpretation certification tests.
Along with acquiring the knowledge and understanding necessary to successfully interpret in legal settings and mastering legal terminology, course participants also will have the opportunity to network with other language industry professionals.

The Trainer
Marilia Vinson is certified by the New York State Unified Court System, has worked at the New York Federal Court as an interpreter, and holds a Master's of Advanced Studies in Interpreter Training from the University of Geneva. She is a former LaGuardia Community College instructor. Mrs. Vinson has more than 10 years of interpretation training experience and currently works as a staff conference interpreter at the Inter-American Defense College in Washington, DC.
MEDICAL INTERPRETATION PROGRAM
56-hour Medical Interpretation Program
This training program goes well beyond the traditional 40-hour medical health interpreter training program. Added features include detailed instruction in the areas of anatomy, physiology, and procedures, as well as mental health interpreting.

Along with acquiring the knowledge and understanding necessary to successfully interpret in the medical settings and mastering medical terminology, course participants also will have the opportunity to network with other language industry professionals.
The course provides a comprehensive and in-depth overview of what it takes to successfully interpret in medical environments through 40 hours of guided coaching and practice in interpretation, as well as 16 hours of instruction of interpretation theory, professionalism and ethics, and medical terminology. This program also serves to prepare interpreters to pass the National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreter Exams. On the final day of this course, students are presented with tips on how to market themselves and build a resume.

The Trainer
Brian Thornton has over 10 years of experience as a medical interpretation trainer. Brian attended 2 years of Medical School at the Universite de Louis Pasteur School of Medicine in Strasbourg, France, and received a minor in Biology and Mathematics at DePauw University (Greencastle, IN). Mr. Thornton shadowed medical doctors in South Africa, France, Australia, and the United States, worked at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital in New York and trained medical interpretation to the personnel at the Montefiore Hospital in NYC.
